Save the date for the intriguing British saxophonist Trish Clowes’ 'My Iris project' at the National Opera House, Wexford on Sunday 11 February at 8pm. The adventurous Clowes, BASCA British Composer Award winner and former BBC Radio 3 New Generation Artist, fronts this outstanding jazz quartet featuring some of the UK’s finest musicians, whose performances have been described as the “jazz of the future” – Augsburger Allgemeine.
The Irish folk legend, who has left his mark on the music of Ireland for more than four decades as the lead singer and uilleann pipes player for the Fureys, has always been at the forefront of musical change. His long career has also included film & TV appearances, including a singing role in the 2002 Martin Scorsese film ‘Gangs of New York’ as well as the award-winning 2016 film ‘The Wild Goose Lodge’, for which he wrote and played the music.
Music Network’s Spring 2017 season begins in epic form with a gathering of titans from trad super-groups Arcady, Altan, Dervish and Solas – vocalist Niamh Parsons, fiddler Ciarán Tourish, flautist Liam Kelly and guitar virtuoso John Doyle will perform at the National Opera House in Wexford on Sunday 14th January at 8pm.
Born in New Rochelle, NY, the legendary Don McLean is renowned for his multiple hits including American Pie which has been inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame and named the fifth greatest song of the 20th Century. 'American Pie' was issued as a double A-side single in November 1971 and charted within a month. Interest from the media and public sent the single to #1 in the USA which also shot Don to international superstardom. Every line of the song was analysed time and time again to find the real meaning. Don refused to sanction any of the many interpretations, so adding to its mystery. The American Pie album remained at #1 in the UK for 7 weeks in 1972, and in the UK charts for 53 consecutive weeks!

Music Network is delighted to co-present the second instalment of its Artist Residency 2017 with The National Opera House and Wexford County Council. This exciting concert series curated by guitarist Redmond O’Toole features a wealth of international and Irish musicians. On Thursday 20th July, traditional Irish musicians Zoë Conway and John McIntyre perform for the very first time with Iranian-born and Dublin-based brothers Shaháb and Sháyán Coohe in a rare fusion of Persian and Irish traditional music.
