Don McLean LIVE in Concert!
This week, acclaimed singer-songwriter Don McLean announced that he will play the National Opera House Wexford on 29th May 2018 as part of a UK and Ireland tour comprising of 26 concerts in total.

Born in New Rochelle, NY, the legendary Don McLean is renowned for his multiple hits including American Pie which has been inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame and named the fifth greatest song of the 20th Century. 'American Pie' was issued as a double A-side single in November 1971 and charted within a month. Interest from the media and public sent the single to #1 in the USA which also shot Don to international superstardom. Every line of the song was analysed time and time again to find the real meaning. Don refused to sanction any of the many interpretations, so adding to its mystery. The American Pie album remained at #1 in the UK for 7 weeks in 1972, and in the UK charts for 53 consecutive weeks!
Other hits of Don's include 'And I Love You So', 'Empty Chairs' and 'Vincent'.
Awards and accolades throughout his career have included, being inaugurated into the National Academy of Popular Music Songwriters’ Hall of Fame in 2004 and awarded the BBC Folk Music Lifetime Achievement Award in 2012.
In 2011 Don performed on the Pyramid Stage at the Glastonbury Festival and in 2014 he performed to a 30,000 strong crowd at the Stagecoach Festival – one of the premier country music events in the US. According to the Daily News “the audience went wild, screaming, jumping, dancing. Even after the song was over, the audience still lingered, basking in the afterglow of the performance”
