MCArts presents The Last Five Years

MCArts, a new production company, presents The Last Five Years, a musical written and composed by Jason Robert Brown.

Directed by Tony Norton and musically directed by Conor McCarthy, this production features a full live band and a two-person cast.

The Last Five Years is known for its contemporary musical style and its intimate format. The musical follows Jamie, an aspiring novelist, and Cathy, an actress, as they navigate their five-year relationship. The story explores their relationship, careers, ambitions and eventual separation through two different timelines. Jamie’s story is told chronologically from the beginning of the relationship, while Cathy’s is told backwards from the end.

Dan Whelan stars as Jamie, with Liz Stears as Cathy. The production focuses on the relationship between the two characters, with Brown’s score providing the framework for the story.

MCArts is pleased to bring this production to the stage as its first production, introducing the company with a focused and intimate staging of one of Jason Robert Brown’s best-known musicals.
