The RTÉ Concert Orchestra is coming to town!
Have yourself a jazzy little Christmas with this big band of extraordinary RTÉ CO musicians, multi-talented pianist/conductor/arranger Cormac McCarthy and stunning singer Jess Kavanagh.
Tchaikovsky’s Nutcracker Suite, set on Christmas Eve, is a musical tradition this time of year. Tonight offers a rare chance to hear a live performance of Duke Ellington’s reworking of the Nutcracker into a jazz classic, with Billy Strayhorn as arranger.
Hark! The Herald Angels Sing and Let It Snow get the full Gordon Goodwin big band treatment – and won’t resemble any church or musak version you’ve ever heard!
Jess Kavanagh takes centre stage for mellow Christmas classics including famous Ella and Sinatra versions. And we couldn’t come to the National Opera House without bringing something very special, a brand-new arrangement by Cormac McCarthy of The Wexford Carol, sure to bring the house down!
The RTÉ Concert Orchestra, bringing orchestral music to new audiences since 1948, has built a strong connection with the public that saw it voted the World’s Favourite Orchestra in 2015. The orchestra’s warm engaging style, delight in performance and rapport with the audience are bound to make this a night to remember!
