Irish National Opera presents Mozart's, The Marriage of Figaro
One of the greatest comic operas ever written, Mozart’s fast-paced masterpiece The Marriage of Figaro revolves around a single day of madness as Susanna valiantly attempts to escape the amorous clutches of Count Almaviva, her fiancé Figaro’s employer on her wedding day.
Servants plot to outwit their master in Mozart’s energetic romp, jammed with disguises, surprises, suspicion and confusion. The forsaken Countess joins forces with Figaro and Susanna to thwart her husband’s plans for seduction and to teach him a lesson. Things get even more complicated when teenage Cherubino, full of youthful passions and with a big crush on the Countess, gets involved.
This comic tale of mayhem and mischief boasts some of the most beautiful and familiar music ever written including the famous overture. Mozart’s superb score drives the drama with unforgettable solos and hilarious ensemble numbers.
With a dream-team ensemble cast, Irish National Opera’s first main-stage production features Irish celebrity mezzo-soprano Tara Erraught as Susanna. Tara is currently on stage this autumn/winter in two productions at New York’s Metropolitan Opera. She will be joined by internationally acclaimed Irish singers Máire Flavin (Scottish Opera & Glyndebourne Opera Festival), Aoife Miskelly (Welsh National Opera & Opera North), veteran star Suzanne Murphy (English National Opera, WNO & Opera North), Ben McAteer (English National Opera & WNO), up-and-coming soprano Amy Ní Fhearraigh, and critically acclaimed New Zealand bass Jonathan Lemalu singing the title role.
Irish National Opera draws together an outstanding creative team including celebrated theatre and opera director Patrick Mason, acclaimed designer Francis O’Connor, and award-winning lighting designer Paul Keogan who join rising star maestro Peter Whelan in a new partnership with the world-class Irish Chamber Orchestra and the chorus of Irish National Opera to stage this exquisite and spirited production of The Marriage of Figaro.
Sung in Italian with English surtitles.
