VOLTA’S production of Hamlet last year in the National Opera House received an outstanding response from the teachers and students who attended so it isn’t surprising that their upcoming production of Macbeth is already heavily booked.
VOLTA is a new company that reinterprets the classics in bold and vivid style. Its founders are Liam Hourican and Jim Roche, who have collaborated for many years in theatre and TV.
Liam Hourican has worked with Shakespeare’s Globe, the Old Vic and Second Age Theatre company and has written and performed sketch shows and comedy drama for Channel 4, RTE and the BBC.
Jim Roche has starred in Normal People (directed by Lenny Abramson (BBC), Harry Wild (Acorn TV) Blood 2 (Virgin Media) Vikings (History Channel), Damo and Ivor, Fair City, Killinaskully, The Mario Rosenstock Show, Dead Still (RTE), The Tudors (Showtime) and iCandy (Channel 4).
Together they have assembled a stellar cast with very high-profile credits to their names.
Macbeth - Sean Duggan
Sean recently performed in Juno and the Paycock at the Gielgud Theatre, where he starred opposite Mark Rylance. 2025 will see him as Dr Watson in the new TV series Sherlock and Daughter, starring David Thewlis as Sherlock Holmes. Sean has worked extensively in TV and film, starring in Lee (2023) with Kate Winslet, Herself (2020), Normal People (2020), and The Sisters Brothers (2018).
Lady Macbeth - Fiona Browne
Fiona played Gertrude in Volta's production of Hamlet last year at the National Opera House. Other acting credits include, Vikings: Valhalla (2023), Fair City, Disenchanted, The Dry, Smother, Normal People and Trivia.
Duncan - Jim Roche
Jim Roche played Polonius in Volta's production of Hamlet last year at the National Opera House. Jim has starred in Killanaskully, Ridley Scott's The Last Duel (2021), Vikings: Valhalla (2023), Normal People (2020), Fair City, Blood, Harry Wild, and Maxine.
Macduff - Liam Hourican
Liam has starred in Julius Caesar at Shakespeare’s Globe (dir. Mark Rylance) and Edmund in King Lear with Second Age. He wrote and starred in his own comedy sketch shows APE on E4 and iCandy on Channel 4. He appeared extensively in TV comedy series, including The Savage Eye (RTE), Very Important People (Channel 4) and Murder in Successville (BBC Three).
Malcom - Myles Feerick
Myles is a recent graduate from The Gaiety School of Acting. He played Horatio in Volta's production of Hamlet last year at the NOH, Edmund in King Lear at Smock Alley, Fionn McCool in Fionn and the Giants Causeway and Fionn na Spas at An Taidbhdearc in Galway.
First Witch/Porter - Sinead Murphy
Sinead is an actor, singer and comedian who starred in Bridget and Eamon, The Mario Rosenstock Show, The Fall, The Clinic and The Matchmaker.
Second Witch/Fleance - Gillian Roberts
Gillian played Ophelia in Volta's production of Hamlet last year at the National Opera House. She starred in Harry Wild (2022), Sylvia (2013) and Standing on your Grave (2021).
Siward - Davy Crann
Davy Crann is Voltas youngest member, who is studying Macbeth for his own leaving cert! This is his second professional stage appearance, the first being Osric in Volta's Hamlet last year at the National Opera House.
