The Flanagan family established the Michael A. Flanagan Banjo Award in 2016 to commemorate the Flanagan Brothers’ important place in Irish music history as well as celebrating and preserving the richness of Irish culture, history, and identity.
The award is an opportunity to pay tribute to the great banjo players across traditional Irish music world, whose artistic talents, intellectual gifts, and creative passions represent the very best of Michael Flanagan’s music and spirit.
The 2025 awardee is Mick O’Connor from London who won the All-Ireland back in 1971. A veteran of the great days of the London Irish music scene of the 1960s, 70s and 80s, Mick is not only a great musician but also a great storyteller, so this is sure to be a night to remember.
