Step into a world where potions bubble, objects levitate, and dragons breathe fire!
Inspired by the magical classrooms of Hogwarts, Scientific Sue combines spectacular demonstrations, storytelling and audience participation to reveal the real science behind the magic. This special Science Week edition of The Science of Hogwarts explores this year's theme:
💧 Water – From Molecule to Ocean
Young witches and wizards discover why water is one of the most extraordinary substances on Earth. Can water vanish without a trace? Why do our oceans change chemistry? How can water protect against dragon fire?
Through magical spells and enchanting experiments, audiences uncover the science of: ✨ Water absorption and storage
✨ Acids, alkalis and ocean chemistry
✨ Heat transfer and water's protective properties
✨ Storms, lightning and the water cycle
✨ Forces, energy and chemical reactions
Along the way, potions fizz, colours magically transform, objects levitate, and dragons breathe multicoloured flames. A spectacular, high-energy, laughter-filled show where everyone discovers that science is the real magic!
The water theme is explored through three magical investigations:
💧 Evanesco – water absorption, storage and superabsorbent polymers.
🌊 Professor Snape's Ocean Protection Potion – water chemistry, acids and alkalis, and ocean acidification.
🔥 Hydroprotego – water's remarkable ability to absorb heat and protect against extreme temperatures.
Alongside these water investigations, the show continues to explore forces, energy and weather (and of course this is part of this year’s theme) through the magical world of Hogwarts.
