Booking FAQs & Information
Do I need a ticket for young children?
Yes. For health and safety reasons, all young children require a ticket to enjoy a show in National Opera House.
Why is there a fee for using a credit or debit card?
A fee of 1.65% of total transaction value will be added to all Credit/Debit Card transactions. This charge relates to the transactional costs imposed by your credit or debit card company on the National Opera House for the use of your credit or debit card in making this payment. The fee is 1.65% of total transaction value with an upper charge limit of €10 per transaction.
Please note that, for security reasons, we do not store your credit card details in our system.
Does the Box Office provide cash back?
We regret that our Box Office does not provide cash back services.
Can I get a refund or exchange tickets for a different show?
Once purchased, tickets cannot be exchanged or refunded unless a performance has been cancelled or sold out and tickets can be resold. Please note that events are subject to change. Tickets that are resold are subject to a 15% administration charge.
Why are my contact details asked when purchasing a ticket and what do you do with that information?
When you book a ticket at National Opera House, your personal information will be held in our database for the purposes of contacting you regarding an event should we need to. Your information will not be disclosed to any third parties.
You will be asked if you want to be included in our mailing list. If you agree, we will send you the National Opera House season brochure three times a year – for free – to the address that you have given us.
On occasion, we may send you information on special offers or competitions for shows that may be of interest to you. If you do not wish to receive information from us, please tell us at the time of booking.
How will I know when my booking has gone through?
Once you are satisfied with your seat allocation, and you have entered your credit card details on the final booking page, select the ‘Buy Tickets’ button on the bottom right-hand corner. You will then receive an e-mail confirming your booking.
At what time does the bar in the National Opera House open?
The theatre bar is open on performance evenings from 7pm
Can I bring food or drink into the theatre?
No, food and drink are not permitted into the auditorium
There is a cloakroom located in the Jerome Hynes Theatre Foyer of the National Opera House. No charge is incurred for the use of this facility.
Smoking is not permitted anywhere in the building.
Cameras, video cameras and recording equipment of any kind are not permitted in the auditorium.
Please ensure all mobiles phones and pagers are switched off before entering the auditorium.
• Please arrive early. The doors of National Opera House will be open two hours prior to the performance start time. The Auditorium is open 30 minutes prior to the performance start time.
• In the event of lateness, admission cannot always be guaranteed. Where possible, patrons will be admitted at a suitable break in the performance.
There is no set dress code at the National Opera House.
